After a nice game for two of the five Giants All-Star Game representatives, the team looks ahead to a four game series against their other Southern Californian rival, the San Diego Padres.
While not on the same scale as their Los Angeles dwelling antagonists, the Padres were inching in on the radar towards the end of the 2010 season. That is not the case this season — they trail far behind in fifth place and with a 40-52 (.435) record.
Nevertheless, the Giants are still playing in that dreaded Petco Park. Yes, indeed, that same park they find themselves struggling to win a 1-0 ballgame. Overcoming this obstacle would be key in the series opener, where oft Cained LHP Madison Bumgarner takes the mound against San Diego’s Aaron Harang.
Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito, and Matt Cain are expected to follow, as this is part of the new rotation order. Both All-Stars scheduled to pitch in this series did not play in the All-Star Game.
Though the season series stands currently tied at 3-3, it would be nice and reassuring if the Giants could earn a series victory at a park they don’t have a good track record in.
