Post-Game Recap: Bumgarner is Pretty Good.

Coming into today’s game, the Giants’ bullpen had an ERA of 0.29 since the All-Star break. Oh-point-two-nine. Holy crap.

And they lowered it even more after Sergio Romo and Brian Wilson combined to hold the Brewers hitless and scoreless to close out another masterful pitching performance by Madison Bumgarner.

The Giants took the rubber match from the Brewers today, winning 2-1. Bumgarner gets the win, Wilson gets the save. And the Giants hand Yovani Gallardo the loss.

Bumgarner had another fantastic outing, going 7 2/3 innings while striking out 8 and walking none. Of note, Bumgarner has only issued 5 walks in the last 62 1/3 innings (since June 1). He’s not giving anything away. The only earned run for Bumgarner came on a solo homerun by Ryan Braun in the first inning. He even helped himself out on offense, hitting a double in the bottom of the third and coming home on a Jeff Keppinger single.

Aubrey Huff ended up with 3 hits on the day. I can’t say that I expect him to keep this hitting up, but I’m thrilled that it’s happening. Brandon Belt was finally allowed to start again, taking LF for the Giants and going 2 for 2 with a walk. I hope to see him in the starting line-up more often. He does good things.

The Giants take tomorrow off to go say hi to the Prez before heading to Philadelphia. I’m sure Brian Wilson will be on his absolute best behavior.
