Injury Updates: Freddy Sanchez, Barry Zito

Second baseman Freddy Sanchez will undergo season ending surgery on his right shoulder to repair a torn labrum.

LHP Barry Zito will head back to the disabled list with an inflamed TBA. Or a TBA that has affected his pitching. Well, it’s a TBA and the full details will be released … sometime.

UPDATE: Zito’s injury is allegedly the same foot injury that landed him on the disabled list earlier this season, reports CSN’s Mychael Urban. More to come after the game.

UPDATE 2: Zito has been officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right foot sprain and LHP Jonathan Sanchez has been reinstated from the disabled list.

  1. That was an awfully convenient injury to Zito.

Here’s how I imagine the meeting with Bochy and the front office going:

“So, Barry, you know you can tell us if you’re injured. I mean, if you’re injured or anything, you can totally tell us. TELL US YOU’RE INJURED RIGHT NOW PLEASE. TELL US. You are? To make it simple, shall we just call it the same thing as last time? Easy enough! Done!”
