In a move many dreamed of but no one expected, today the Giants designated both Miguel Tejada and Aaron Rowand for assignment. The Giants will eat the rest of the $12 million owed to Rowand this year, along with the entire $12 million owed him for 2012.
Rowand’s line for the year was an anemic .233/.274/.347, and he hasn’t drawn a walk since July 5. Tejada wasn’t playing any better, sporting a line of .239/.270/.326. His reaction to being told to bunt against the Astros last weekend (and failure to even run out the bunt) likely did not help his chances of remaining a Giant.
The Giants have used the newly opened spots on the 40-man roster to purchase Brett Pill’s contract from AAA-Fresno and activate Pat Burrell from the 60-day DL.
No word on whether Tejada threw up a spotlight as he climbed into his car in the parking lot as he left the stadium.
