According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Giants and right handed pitcher Ryan Vogelsong have agreed to terms to a two year, 8 million dollar deal with an option for a third year.

Vogelsong finished the 2011 season with an ERA/FIP/xFIP line of 2.71/3.67/3.85, 139 strikeouts, a K/9 of 6.96, and a BB/9 of 3/06.

Though Vogelsong does not put up flashy statistics, he can continue to be a decent fifth starter. Because the alternatives could include players such as Todd Wellemeyer and Jeff Suppan and clearly, those experiments did not work out in the past.

Here’s to hoping Vogelsong doesn’t regress to the mean anytime soon.
