Do you know how hard it is not to make a really silly pun in your headline when you’re writing a recap of a game played in Surprise, AZ? It’s really hard, okay. Just saying.
The important bits:
- Tim Lincecum became the first Giants pitcher to go four innings today. His final line was 4 IP, H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4K. He threw 58 pitches and 37 strikes and even successfully picked off Eric Hosmer leading at first. Yep, I was just as shocked about that last bit as everyone else.
- Conor Gillaspie hit a home run. An honest to god over the fence one this time, even, though I think I might personally prefer his max effort inside the parker from last September, if only for the style factor.
- Gregor Blanco and Emmanuel Burriss both had stolen bases today, bringing the speedster Blanco’s total to an MLB leading six so far this Spring. Bochy’s promise to use speed on the basepaths more this season seems to be holding true, at least so far.
The not as important but arguably more entertaining bits:
- There were, for some reason, periodic bursts of bird chirping in the background of today’s broadcast, leading a friend of Third Street Kings (who has awesome Giants-y stuff available here) to wonder if perhaps Doug Greenwald isn’t actually a Disney princess. Not going to lie, that may have made me laugh harder than anything else today.
The Giants take on the Cubs tomorrow in Scottsdale.
