I don’t know about you, but I’m scared of the Cardinals. After Friday night’s game where they came back and beat the Nationals? Eeeeesh.
The Giants have faced teams that seemed to overmatch them. Same can be said about a lot of other teams. It’s also just … very nerve wracking.
Madison Bumgarner’s set to start game one. Ryan Vogelsong’s on the mound for game two. Solid, decent, what more can you ask for when Matt Cain can’t be the game one starter? Tim Lincecum and Barry Zito are reportedly available out of the bullpen for games one and two.
As far as pitching goes, it seems to be pretty decent. A couple of reliever changes are possible, but I wouldn’t expect for Sergio Romo, George Kontos, Jeremy Affeldt, and Javier Lopez to be off the roster.
I would have to assume that the Giants will have Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Marco Scutaro, Brandon Crawford, Pablo Sandoval, Hunter Pence, Gregor Blanco, and Angel Pagan on their NLCS roster. As far as bench guys go, Francisco Peguero is a possibility. Oh, and Hector Sanchez. Of course.
The Cardinals will have Lance Lynn on the mound for game one, followed by Chris Carpenter. Kyle Lohse and Adam Wainwright will go games three and four, respectively. They have made no changes to their roster.
I could try to say something insightful about the matchups and how the Giants have been against the Cardinals this year, but man. It’s the postseason — and it’s been a wacky one at that. Your guess is as good as mine and Mercury’s not even in retrograde.
All that’s left is probably making snarky comments if it turns out that Tim McCarver will be broadcasting alone for a while. Which is highly possible considering that that’s just how baseball is right now.
Otherwise, it’s likely going to be a state of, “Oh sweet mother of Cy the bulldog, I am not ready for this — I AM NOT READY FOR THIS.”
If anyone needs me, I’ll be hiding under a desk.
